The couple met when Francis was hanging out with some friends when someone named Kevin joined them. Francis was in the middle of telling the group a life story and Kevin quietly listened.
Francis says, “To this day, he takes my breath away like that very first time I saw him walk into the room.”
Their first date was at Frank Sinatra Park. Though they were both unemployed, together they created the perfect first date. It was sunset by the Hudson River. They were sitting on a blanket with pillows Francis kept specifically for picnics. And Kevin even tried mangos for the very first time.
Kevin and Francis got married at the Fiesta. Unlike many couples who get ready separately and either have a planned first look or see each other as they walk down the aisle, these two opted to get ready together. The little moments, such as Kevin adjusting Francis’ tie or Francis pinning Kevin’s boutonniere to his lapel, were sweet and romantic, just as the rest of the wedding.
We didn’t have enough time to go out to another location for portraits so we improvised and found a small patch of grass on the other side of the venue. As you can see, it made for a beautiful backdrop.
The ceremony included a Filipino wedding tradition where a veil followed by a cord was placed on both grooms. The veil represents that they are dressed as one, while the cord represents their everlasting fidelity to each other. Finally, there was the lighting of their unity candle.
The reception was full of laughter, happy tears, and so much dancing. Kevin is an Irish dancer and they surprised everyone with a whole set of Irish dancing. The crowd, myself included, loved it.
Thank you so much for including me in your special day, Francis and Kevin! I wish you a lifetime of happiness together.
Thanks to my other shooters, Jess and Meredith.
