Keith and Donna contacted me a month prior to their Cape May, New Jersey wedding. They were planning a low key, simple day with family and close friends.
After meeting at Rutgers University in 1999, the couple got engaged in June 2015 while on vacation in North Carolina. They were staying in Rodanthe, and the two of them went for a walk on the beach. Keith even proposed in front of the house used in the movie “Nights in Rodanthe.” After Donna said yes, they went back to their rental house and celebrated with their children and her immediate family.
In line with keeping their wedding low key, the couple had decided not to have a wedding party. So instead of getting ready surrounded by bustling bridesmaids, Donna got ready with her family, including their excited, energetic kids.
Usually first looks are private, with only the photographer there to see the couple’s reactions. However, we did a first look on the porch of the hotel with friends and family watching. Then we walked across the street to the beach and took some formal portraits.I love the group photo!
Both the ceremony and reception were held at the Hotel Macomber, a historic building in Cape May, NJ. Built at the turn of the century near the beach, the Hotel Macomber was the last Historic Landmark building built in town. It’s even said that the hotel is one of the most haunted buildings in Cape May…which is really saying something, as many of the homes in the area are said to be haunted. If you’re looking for a wedding venue with its own unique story, you really can’t go wrong with the Hotel Macomber.
The ceremony was held on the hotel’s sunny porch with about 60 guests in attendance.
One of my favorite things about shooting receptions is capturing people having fun. And when you throw kids into the mix, it’s basically a recipe for photography perfection. Let’s just say Keith and Donna’s kids were having a blast!
The reception was traditional, with good food, cake, and dancing. It truly was the simple wedding they were hoping for, while being elegant, memorable, and focused on the guests. Their smiles say it all!
Thank you, Keith and Donna, for having me photograph your special day! I wish you all the happiness in the world.
Thanks to my other shooter, Gerardo!
